Swinging into February, 2019 is well and truly underway, and is promising to be a big year in communications, PR and media.
With the ever-changing media and comms landscape, it only becomes more important to stay up-to-date with changes, trends and new opportunities.
But there are some simple ways to keep ahead of the curve, in business and communications.
On episode one, of Savvy Talk, regional PR and communications expert, Maha Abouelenein discusses a few simple ways to maximize your output in 2019.
1. Content creation is king
Before we start – content does not simply mean video or images. Content can be anything; blog posts, picture galleries, Instagram stories, a 10-word tweet or a live video.
By creating content, you don’t have to spend a fortune on agency fees- you can do things as simple as taking photos with your smartphone, share a blog post about what’s trending within your consumers, or create some behind-the-scenes Instagram stories. But you should be creating content in one way or another.
Maha explains: ‘It’s really important that people don’t overthink how they’re putting their content out there. Just start.’ You’ll quickly see what works for you and your audience.
2. Always be learning and growing
With an ever-changing landscape, anyone can learn anytime, anywhere and thanks to the internet it’s free!
Things as easy as visiting YouTube will help you stay at the top of your game. Find some good podcasts, read up on topics. It doesn’t have to be specific to work, but learning enriches the mind and will help broaden your perspective and understanding.
3. Get focused – and learn how to say no
‘There’s a huge difference between being productive and being busy,’ explains Maha. ‘Being focused is hard – pick a couple of things and do them well, and stick to those buckets.’
Prioritizing the right tasks can be difficult, so listing out what you’re working on or focusing on, means you can see where you’re spending your time – and pick some things to remove if you need to allocate more time to other projects.
By delegating the less important tasks, it will free you up to focus on what is really important, that other people can’t do.
4. Invest time in audio
Audio is simple and portable, it’s time to invest in audio. Whether consuming it or creating it. It’s so easy to get through audiobooks while you’re driving, up skill yourself while stuck in traffic.
Maha says: ‘Watch this space for 2019 and years to come.’
5. Prioritize sleep
Going without sleep is no longer considered a bragging right.
Studies have shown the importance of sleep (your body releases growth hormones during slumber), so resting and taking care of your body is paramount.
Getting rest will improve your mood, your efficiency and your creativity, making you an all-round better person to work with or for.
